Sylvester Britton 1926-2009

Sylvester Britton was born in Chicago in 1926. He began his formal art training at the School of Painting and Sculpture in Mexico City, studying there for six years studied before returning to the US in 1952 to attend the Art Institute of Chicago School of Painting. Britton then traveled again to Europe, showing work in France and Sweden. He faced financial difficulty in Europe and returned again to Chicago. There he played a key role in the revival of the South Side Community Art Center. Britton died in 2009.
