Location: Charlotte, NC - Notes: The exhibition examines African-American artists of the 20th century and their explorations of natural and abstract forms through various media. The techniques employed by these artists demonstrate not only their mastery, but their approaches to capturing and illustrating emotions, societal perspectives, and quotidian moments. The exhibition brings together over 30 artworks from the 1930s through the 1970s, representing artistic styles such as Abstract Realism, portraiture, and cubism. African-American artists utilized a range of media to depict the shifting shapes and ideals of society, outlining their personal stories and preserving them for future reflection.1
