The Creative Genes is an exhibition of historic and contemporary artworks and writing from personal collections, the Moravian Archives, the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art, and The Volta Center for Writing Arts. The exhibition will be on view from December 3, 2025 to February 28, 2026, with an opening reception held on December 3 from 4 – 8 pm at Hicks Art Center Gallery. Volta Workshop Writers read at 5:30pm.
This exhibition presents 4 groups of genetically related artists from diverse backgrounds and narratives who all shared the experiences and exposures to positive environments that fostered creative growth. In addition, writers participating in recent Volta Center’s workshops, will reveal their thoughts of creative lineage in words. Visitors will have a rare opportunity to see these pieces, which have been drawn from artist studios, archives and collections specifically for this exhibition, some of which have not been widely exhibited before.
